On Sunday October 6th 2013 at approximately 1350 hrs, Osceola County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a two vehicle crash with a fatality on M115 near 22 mile road. A SUV/crossover traveling southbound hauling a boat collided with a northbound pickup. Improper towing of the large boat by the southbound SUV and wet road conditions made it to where the boat traveled into the northbound lanes striking the passing northbound pickup. Jay’s break-in solved
By Pat Maurer Correspondent Two men from the Lansing area have been arrested for the larceny of more than $1,500 in fishing reels at Jay’s Sporting Goods July 24. According to information from Clare County Sheriff John Wilson, two men had stolen the equipment by removing reels from their boxes and leaving the boxes in the store. Video surveillance that was released in the news helped to identify the suspects, Wilson said. The fishing equipment was recovered in the investigation. New Mobile Radar in Clare
Watch your speed in Clare, you might be on radar! Clare Police Chief Brian Gregory is shown here with the brand new Mobile Radar Trailer now in use in the city. The trailer was purchased with a $4,800 AAA grant. One dies in two-car collision
On Tuesday, December 10th, 2013 at 12:43 p.m. the Clare County Central Dispatch received multiple 911 calls of a two vehicle accident on US-10 near West Ludington Drive in Surrey Township. Deputies from the Clare County Sheriff Department arrived on scene and determined a 42 year old female from Lake was driving a silver Chevrolet Cavalier East bound on US-10. Carlton charged with CSC
By Pat Maurer Correspondent Daniel Carlton, 19, of Harrison was arrested December 11 on charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a 12-year-old minor at a Frost Township residence. The CSC was reported by the victim. Investigation into the charges began in October, Clare County Undersheriff Dwayne Miedzianowski reported. Carlton was arraigned in 80th District Court December 13 by Magistrate Karen Willing on the charge of Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree. His bond was set at $100,000/ten percent. Carlton has since posted bond and is awaiting a Preliminary Examination.

Three injured in M-115 collision
By Pat Maurer Correspondent Three people were injured, one seriously when icy road conditions led to a two-vehicle crash on M-115 near Lake Station Avenue late Tuesday morning, according to Clare County Undersheriff Dwayne Miedzianowski. County deputies were called to the scene around 11:16 a.m., Miedzianowski said. The crash investigation determined that a Chevy pickup driven by 59-year-old Geraldine Marsden of Detroit was eastbound on M-115 when she lost control of her vehicle and slid into the opposing lane. Four arrested for Harrison break-ins
By Pat Maurer Correspondent Two couples were arraigned in 80th District Court December 13 on charges stemming from two home invasions, one October 16 and the second on October 20 near Old State and Stockwell Roads in Greenwood Township. Officers reported that safes and other personal valuables had been taken from the homes. Police were notified of the break-ins after the residents returned home, Undersheriff Dwayne Miedzianowski reported. After investigating the break-ins, four suspects, all from Harrison, were arrested. The conference was held off the record with no conclusion drawn and no new court date set, according to the circuit court clerk. Clare PD has second SUV on the road
By Pat Maurer Correspondent Improvements to the Clare Police Department were the highlight of the Clare City Commission meeting Monday evening. Clare Police Chief Brian Gregory announced that the second of two new Ford Explorer SUVs is now in service. The two completely equipped vehicles were funded through a United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development grant. Commissioners had a chance to view the newest of the two vehicles after the meeting. Mecosta man charged with Clare CSC
By Pat Maurer Correspondent A two-year-long investigation into allegations of CSC led to the arrest of Edward Mitchell, 37, of Mecosta on January 15 on charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the first degree. A multiple count Criminal Sexual Conduct warrant was issued for Mitchell January 13. State Police troopers from the Mt. Pleasant Post arrested Mitchell near his home without incident, they reported. Mitchell was arraigned January 16 in Clare County’s 80th District Court by Magistrate Karen Willing and his bond was set at $300,000. He remains incarcerated at the Clare County Jail.
